Toulouse-Lautrec in Paris

Have been reading the book “Toulouse-Lautrec in Paris,” and am struck by the complexity of color (as with Two Friends from 1895), as well as his inheritance of Parisian society from Degas. But mostly the colors are again what astounds me. I think of him so much as a master of line… but the flat spaces of color, and then the yellows as above. His balance of color and line is something to return to.
